feedtime -- Shovel

According to Wikipedia Shovel (1986) was feedtime’s most critically acclaimed record, which makes me think I need to go spin it again. I enjoy a little primitive noise rock once in a while, even now that I’m elderly. But this just didn’t do it for me today. There were a couple riffs that held my attention, a few great songs, and some occasional moments where they reminded me of Head of David. Still, I don’t think this one will stay in the collection.

For the concerned grammarians in the house I want to point out that the proper spelling of feedtime is with a lowercase f.

NO!!!!! You’ve got to hang onto this one! Give it another go. Amazing band who I used to see a lot back in the day (late 80s maybe even into the early 90s? Memory bank’s a bit rusty sorry) & who were ALWAYS amazing. Maybe a band before their time when you consider all the outfits around now that have the same blues influences. I reckon feedtime could have fitted nicely on Fat Possum, & they would certainly wipe the floor with most all of the likes of the Black Keys etal. I only recently dug out the first album after seeing it posted on the web. And it held up surprisingly well. In fact it sounded as good as it did way back when. Now I’ve got to give this one another spin.

The first poster is correct, these guys were/are quite unique and really kick ass in a decidedly heavy manner.

i saw feedtime nearly every saturday nite at the palace hotel in the late 80,s the scene was like a congregation of sydneys abstact and the mad, the shows were spiritualy cleansing, being an aquired taste feedtime sucked you into a cult that has stuck with me to this day.no other band will ever come close as they r the greatest, rick feedtime being my loyal friend for over 20 years now,i understand the no fucking around attitude to feedtimes music which has derived from a person who is a top bloke.maybe we might be fortunate enough to see them play again.

Shovel’s a fuckin’ brilliant record. I recommend it as a hangover cure – gets rid of that seedy feeling the next day quick-smart.

I also have “Fractured” on my MP3 player right now and it’s stuck in my head. Damn fine.
