Oh man this album is lame, for Echo And The Bunnymen that is. Now I remember why they were dead to me, DEAD I tell you!, by the time this record came out. Maybe I didn’t give it a fair listen, but I’m not playing it again. If I was right the first time I’ll just suffer again for nothing. The hits “Bedbugs and Ballyhoo” and “Lips Like Sugar” are probably the best songs on Echo And The Bunnymen.
Flushing my head now with some Wolfmother. Heavy riffs, take me away…
Thanks for the Wolfmother tip. I like the songs they have posted on their website. “Dimension” reminds me a lot of early Sabbath, but with a White Stripes kind of stripped-down production. Good stuff.
I hear ya. But Lips Like Sugar and Ballyhoo are NOT the best trax on this LP in my opinion.
Listen to The Game again and remember how well the Bunnymen could do bittersweet. Yes they were tired of the game and the subsequent death of their drummer en route to the recording studio meant for me the Bunnymen could never get back to the strength of their first four albums. But listening to The (overproduced)Game is like waving fond farewell to your favoritest band ever…
Some other tracks “Lost and Found,” “Blue Blue Ocean” “Over You” “All My Life” even “New Direction” have their lameness but also their appeal.
