Grayson Sigler — Mobius Strip in Concrete
Author: Tracy Sigler | Posted: July 16th, 2007 | | Tags: concrete, sculpture | 7 Comments »In honor of artist Grayson Sigler’s birthday today we are featuring one of his more recent creations. Seen here is a Mobius Strip rendered in concrete. The artist has apparently decided to juxtapose the fluidity of this shape with a decidedly solid material. Or, perhaps his intention is to combine the seemingly infinite movement of the form with the complementary permanence of concrete. Whatever the intention, the result is an intriguing sculpture that compels the viewer to touch it. And it’s seriously heavy.
Do you know how he made the mold, or is that like asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? ;-)
I believe he used what you sculpting types would call an armature. He applied and tooled the concrete onto that and where necessary ground it back off. Don’t try this at home.
Hey Tracy,
A few friends and I are starting a blog about mathematics, and we really want to use the picture as part of our logo. Is this picture in public domain?

[…] for our title banner is stolen (with kind permission from Grayson Sigler, the sculptor) from this post on Tracy Sigler’s blog. We fell in love with the image at first sight. Check out her blog […]
A Grayson Sigler original sure would look good in Colorado.
Sara: Make me an offer. :)
Love this…
